Dubai in Winter 2026–27: Weather, Shopping Festival and Christmas Without the Cold
Dubai's 2026 festive season has fixed dates, free markets, real snow while it's 25°C outside, and New Year's Eve plans worth booking early.
Av Saskia van DijkDubai's neighbourhoods, sights and slow mornings

Winter District at Jumeirah Emirates Towers (Sheikh Zayed Road) puts an open-air market and an ice rink in front of the mirrored silver torus of the Museum of the Future, the towers rising either side. Entry is free and the dates are 12 to 28 December 2026. Daytime temperatures hold at 25°C.

Free markets in December
The Winter District site opens at 2 p.m. and runs to midnight, 1 a.m. at weekends. Skating, carnival games and food are paid per go. A large group can drop in without booking, which matters when a party of 12 wants somewhere to converge after dark.

Madinat Jumeirah Festive Market (Fort Island, Madinat Jumeirah) runs 4 to 27 December 2026, Monday to Thursday from 3 p.m. until late, Friday to Sunday from noon. A 36-foot tree hung with baubles and candy canes stands on Fort Island, wind-tower architecture and palms behind it, wooden chalet stalls set out around it. Abras glide along the Madinat's waterways while the stalls trade.
Entry is free. Stalls, abra rides and food are charged individually, and there is no reservation for the market itself, first come first served. It photographs better than anything else in the season, but it shuts on 27 December, so a 31 December visit is not on. Book a table at one of the Madinat restaurants if you want a seated anchor to the evening.
The Ripe Festive Market (Dubai Police Academy Park) costs AED 5 for adults, with under-12s free. The 15th season runs at weekends to 2 May 2027 and turns festive on December weekends, Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wreath-making, Santa and carols fill the December dates.

This is the local, non-corporate end of the festive scene. Stalls stand under white canvas canopies on grass strung with fairy lights, food trucks park on the lawn, and Dubai Police supercars sit on display. The hours are daytime and there is no door policy.

Ticketed festive sites
Global Village charges AED 25 on a weekday and AED 30 on any day, with under-3s and over-65s free. Season 31, titled "A More Wonderful World", opened on 14 October 2026 and runs to May 2027, 4 p.m. to midnight and to 1 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. Ranks of national pavilions carry pastiche facades, a mini Taj Mahal, Italian arcades, a Chinese gate, all lit up after dark.

Crowds eat street food beside a man-made lake and fireworks go up nightly. It is the cheapest big festive night out in the city and the one place that reads as a world Christmas market. Tuesdays are reserved for ladies and families, so a mixed group of friends should pick another day.

DXB Winter Festival (Dubai Festival City Mall) is in its first edition, 1 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, 4 p.m. to midnight and 2 p.m. at weekends. A 20,000 sq m strip of vendor streets runs along the waterfront, with a funfair ferris wheel and a giant Christmas tree, the Dubai Creek waterline and the mall lightshow behind. More than 150 vendors trade inside it.
One ticket covers every zone, which lets a group split up and regroup. The price had still not been published by November 2026, after a 25 percent early-bird allocation was offered at registration. It is the only major festive site that stays open through New Year and into Orthodox Christmas. The 4 p.m. weekday opening is the quiet slot.
Winter City at Expo City Dubai runs its fifth edition from 11 to 31 December 2026, daily 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., from AED 60 per person. The theme is "Once upon a holiday", with Disney+, Pixar and Marvel zones. Snow falls indoors beneath the vast latticed dome of Al Wasl Plaza, over a snow-dusted village of chalets, and the dome's full surface works as a projection screen. The projection is the reason to make the trip. The Disney theming is heavy, and an adults-only group will feel out of place in it.

Dubai Garden Glow has moved for Season 11 to Zabeel Park Gate 3, next to the Dubai Frame, not the old site. It opens 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. A single ticket costs AED 70 at the gate or AED 73.50 online and covers both the Dinosaur Park and the Fantasy Park. Illuminated translucent fabric sculptures glow after dark, life-sized animatronic dinosaurs stand in the adjoining park, and the giant gold rectangle of the Frame sits on the skyline behind. Pair it with a Frame visit. Contact them for block rates.

Snow and flowers while it stays warm

Ski Dubai (Mall of the Emirates) keeps a real-snow slope under a sloping white hangar roof, chairlift towers over the piste, gentoo and king penguins on the snow at the bottom and shoppers watching through the glass. It opens year-round, roughly 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and later at weekends, which makes it the one site here that does not vanish on 1 January.
Snow Park entry starts at AED 195 to 250. A slopes pass starts at AED 295, and premium bundles run at AED 450. Group bookings go through the resort. Penguin encounters cap at 12 guests, so a big party has to split across slots.
Dubai Miracle Garden opened Season 15 on 8 October 2026 and runs to 31 May 2027, daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are AED 105 for adults and AED 84 for children, with under-3s free. A full-size Emirates A380 fuselage stands clad entirely in living flowers, beside flower-covered arched walkways, heart tunnels and tight blocks of petunias in colour-blocked rows under desert sun. The park holds 200 million flowers and stages weekly themed celebrations.

Go early in the day. It bakes and crowds by mid-afternoon. Book ahead on December weekends, when the coaches arrive.
Dubai Opera, the QE2 and a pub garden
Dubai Opera (Downtown Dubai) is a glass dhow-shaped auditorium, its bow-and-hull silhouette lit amber at night with the Burj Khalifa rising immediately behind. The Bolshoi Ballet's first official UAE tour brings The Nutcracker here from 4 to 6 December 2026, with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra playing live. Three nights is all there is, and it will sell out well before December.

The Nutcracker runs AED 450 to 495, and other festive shows vary. Block and group bookings go through the box office. Smart dress is expected.
Queen Elizabeth 2 (Mina Rashid) is the original Cunard liner, permanently berthed, black hull and red-and-black funnel, art-deco interiors inside and the Queens Room's panelled 1960s ballroom dressed for Christmas. The 2026 programme is confirmed. Tree lighting falls on 11 December at AED 50, children AED 30. Christmas lunch on 25 December runs AED 335 to 590. The Pavilion masquerade on 31 December runs AED 575 to 990, and A Christmas Carol plays in the ship's theatre.

Sittings are sold per head and bookable in blocks, so a group that wants a seated event rather than a market wander has somewhere to put the evening. Nothing else in the Gulf does Christmas on a real ocean liner.
The Irish Village (Al Garhoud) keeps a mock Irish village shopfront terrace on cobbled paving, with huge mature trees over the beer garden and a duck-populated lake at its edge. It opens Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

A 21-piece orchestra plays the Christmas Cracker sing-along concert on 12 December 2026, at AED 120. Pints and mains sit at mid-range licensed Dubai rates, with no minimum spend. The garden absorbs a big party better than any hotel bar in the city. No reservation is needed, though it is worth making one for a large group.
New Year's Eve
The Dubai Fountain reopened on 1 October 2025 after a five-month refit and now runs daily at 1 p.m. and 1.30 p.m., then every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., with festive-themed shows through the season. Jets fire more than 100m off a 30-acre lake at the foot of the Burj Khalifa, the tower's full height used as an LED screen behind them, Souk Al Bahar's arched bridge packed with onlookers.

It is free from the promenade, the bridge and Burj Park, with no limit on group size. Lake boat rides and restaurant terraces are charged separately. The Burj Khalifa New Year fireworks are free to watch from here, which means enormous crowds and closed roads on the night. Reserve a restaurant terrace if you want certainty of a view on 31 December.
Atlantis, The Palm (Palm Jumeirah) straddles the crest of Palm Jumeirah as a pink ziggurat-arch resort, Aquaventure's water slides and shark lagoon below, fireworks arcing between it and the taller Atlantis The Royal next door. Katy Perry headlines the Under The Stars gala dinner on 31 December 2026 from 6 p.m., with a 30-piece band and a Palm-wide fireworks finale.

This is the city's marquee New Year ticket and it is priced like it. The gala starts at AED 8,500, and AED 6,500 for ages 4 to 13. In-restaurant dinners on the night start at AED 1,350, and suites start at AED 250,000. Black tie is enforced. The children's party runs separately in the Asateer Tent.
Out past the city

Hatta Wadi Hub is a 90-minute drive inland into Dubai's mountain exclave, where ochre Hajar ridges stand above a turquoise dam reservoir, zipline cables cross the wadi, and mountain-bike trails and the Hatta Drop-In slide are cut into bare rock. Season 9 runs 28 September 2026 to 31 May 2027, Sunday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 9 p.m. The winter festival season adds an illuminated night trail and an outdoor cinema.
Activities are booked and priced individually, and the official site publishes no rate card, so ask for a quote. Group and event bookings go through [email protected] or WhatsApp. Kayaking and biking scale to a dozen people and more.
Platinum Heritage runs open-top 1950s Land Rover Series convertibles in a line across red dune sand in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, Arabian oryx in frame, a falconer with a hooded bird at sunset and a Bedouin camp lit by lanterns. It is licensed for the conservation reserve and does no dune-bashing, which makes it the credible desert evening next to the cheap Al Awir convoys.

The rate is AED 795 per adult and AED 695 per child, including VAT. Each vintage Land Rover takes up to nine guests, private cars are available, and the camps are capped at 75 to 100 guests. Book at least three hours ahead. December evenings get cold after dark out here, so carry a layer.
Dates and booking
The markets expire on different days: Madinat Jumeirah closes on 27 December and Winter City on 31 December, which leaves DXB Winter Festival and Ski Dubai as the sites still open on New Year's Day. Book the Bolshoi nights, the QE2 sittings, the Atlantis gala and a December-weekend slot at Miracle Garden ahead of arrival, and keep Tuesday at Global Village for ladies and families.
